Band of Brothers (insight from the guides)

This weekend I started re-watching “Band of Brothers” a 2001 miniseries that follows the 101st Airborne “Easy Company” during World War II.

Not just that, I’ve watched several similar movies recently and visited Arlington, VA, along with the Vietnam and Korean Memorials in Washington.

There is no glorification of war here, just stark reminders of the service and loss to a nation, and many nations.

The question is, why was I drawn to these somber places and to watch these historical films? What was this calling?

I’ve been close to these spaces all my life, it’s deeply rooted.

In the 90s I traveled across France by train and in several coastal areas we passed WWI and WWII cemeteries, the train slowing for one out of respect. This was the first time since learning about these conflicts in school that I was here, where the fighting occurred. It was very moving and this sight has never left me.

I can feel the passion and bravery, and sense the horror and loss that was felt.

My guides visited while I was watching this weekend to enlighten me. They talked about “service” saying “It’s a word thrown around loosely and not fully understood.”

They wanted me to know that “service” is in all of us and that great expansion is available when we offer from this place. There is a rendering of love that cannot be measured within this space.”

They told me “These men and women had vast heart expansion through their service and that leaning into their memory as I have done, allowed my heart to grow too. It was not just about sadness and sorrow.”

They showed me mankind’s expansion through these dark times in a way I was not expecting. They showed me light within the darkness.

The fierceness of the human spirit is empowering, the love blinding. This is what they wanted me to say in human words. I understood this density of love was available through these tender young hearts.

They showed the world today, and how service is offered in many different ways. They see what we are building and smile knowing we are not yet fully aware of the potential we are creating!

They are cheering us on and wish to say, “We love you all very much.”

In closing; The guides did link (not by comparison) energetic work and those embroiled in it today to “service”. They are proud of all who put their hand up at this time.

Service is expressed in many ways.
